About Clifton Suspension Bridge

Bristol's graceful Clifton Suspension Bridge was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. It spans the Avon Gorge some 245ft above the river.

Beneath the Observatory on Clifton Down where a camera obscura is fitted in a building of 1777 which was originally a mill, is the entrance to the Giant's Cave. From this large cave at the side of the gorge it is possible to get tremendous views of the bridge and surrounding scenery.

Clifton itself is very pleasant, it has tumbling streets around which there are attractive properties from the Victorian and Georgian era.
